Kunal Khemu is all set to entertain his fans once again with his upcoming movie ‘Kanjoos Makhichoos’. The film, written and directed by Vipul Mehta, is a comedy-drama that revolves around the life of a middle-class man who is constantly at odds with a corrupt system.
Kunal plays the role of Jamnaprasad Pandey, a miserly man who is infamous in his town of Deoria, Uttar Pradesh. His family, comprising his parents Gangaprasad Pandey (Piyush Mishra) and Saraswati Pandey (Alka Amin), his wife Madhuri (Shweta Tripathi), and son Krish, are fed up with his penny-pinching habits. However, no one knows that he is saving money to take his father for the char-dham yatra.
The story takes a turn when a flood devastates the town, and Jamna’s connection with his family breaks. The government declares people missing for more than 25 days dead and releases compensation of Rs 7 lakh for each missing person, making it Rs 14 lakh for Jamna’s parents. However, by the time the money reaches Jamnaprasad, it is reduced to Rs 10 lakh, as corrupt government officers have shared Rs 4 lakh of the compensation money amongst themselves. This makes him upset, and he decides to resolve the issue, even if he has to fight with the corrupt system.
Talking about his role in the movie, Kunal said, “Kanjoos Makhichoos is the kind of film that I would love to watch with my family because it is a complete mass entertainer. It has the perfect dose of drama, comedy, plot twists, a sweet message, and a whole lot of entertainment. Also, I had a great time shooting with my co-actors and the entire crew because the energy on set was great. I am sure my fans and their families will enjoy this film.”
Vipul Mehta, the director, added, “Kanjoos Makhichoos is a story of a middle-class, simple-minded Pandey family, belonging to Lucknow. The story has a very realistic approach with humane and relatable characters. The humor depicted in the film is also very natural. In this world of nuclear urban families, our film is focusing on the story of a joint, close-knit family. The protagonist Jamnaprasad is a miser-minded person, and his miserly ways will steal the heart of the audience.”
